Build

Building a computer from scratch is the baseline for our hardware goals. It's easy to rush to the most futuristic aspects of technology, but predicting the future doesn't supersede being able to maintain and get hands-on with what is contemporary.

This computer has an RTX 2080 GPU and i9 CPU, using VR development metrics as a gauge of power. VR, holograms, haptics, animation, games have been used to develop on this setup. The only challenge was trying to export rigged blender animation into the ‘Looking Glass’ and it was hard to detect the cause of the frames falling out.

Furthermore, it was very interesting to be able to add a personalised creative element to the build. It was configured to increase profit, and didn't not work.

As we move forward, the principles that go into a functional computer become more common. In the world of ‘app moguls’ and ‘social media juggernauts’, the hands-on skills are not very appealing, but it is important as it provides job security.

Vince Prototype 1.0

This was a project commissioned by the BBC and the British Arts Council. Originally, it was meant to be a 360 dome project inspired by a British Arts Counci-funded trip that I took to Canada. While I was there, I attended a 360 Dome Symposium.

Due to technical difficulties, the domes in production were not completed in time for the symposium. As a result, we instead played with an experimental console/arcade which something that First Synapse should have created.

Eventually, we used our time and money to see how far we could go with a holographic screen and haptic controller. Watch this video to see the results.

Console

Creating our console or arcade is part of our long-term plan.

There is an ongoing debate as to whether games unite people or divide them.

Although we are in the very early stages, this was the inspiration behind Vince's Prototype 1.0 . You can read above for more context.

3D Print

We have a 3D printer. We haven't used it yet.. there is more to come.

Misc

After building the main computer, we are inclined to incorporate the Raspberry Pi's. Since we have learnt about Linux, it has allowed us to think about other plans (drones, etc).

We have started playing with the Pybadge and plan on moving on to the Arduino and all the other modular build kits.

We opted to test mining cryptocurrencies to explore the physical side of blockchain technologies and it has been very successful according to various measurements.

Making smart houses is also a big initiative that we are considering. In the future, we will employ innovative strategies to create many types of smart buildings.
